The Real Essence of Love

Love...Love...Love... four days on the countdown to the worldwide-celebrated "Valentine's Day" by our beloved friends; planning dates, sometimes even wedding proposals, gifts and the like became customary. Love is literally in the air..the music on the radio, the advertisements, the greetings seen and heard.  The shopping malls and other establishments are all dressed-up in red with "cupids and hearts" hanging around.

There is this "Valentine" fever, I suppose. But, the most discussed and uttered word is nothing more than "LOVE". Different person defines love in various ways, depending on experiences and maybe sometimes expectations.
Being a Christian, I trusted the Holy Bible to give us the BEST interpretation of the word LOVE.

1 Corinthians 13:4 - 8 NKJV (New King James Version)

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

Tagalized Version
                    I Corinto 13:4-8 MB (Magandang Balita Bibliya)

If  we have to live by that definition, the world would be a far better place to live not only for families but for the whole mankind..

Verse  4 Love suffers long and is kind;

It can be compared to "love of a mother to her child" - mothers started loving their child from the womb, refrains from things that could endanger the safety of the child even that "things" can please her..

love does not envy;

This sometimes manifests in  the "love of  a person to his friend".  A person who really loves a friend is happier for his achievements; there is no room for envy in his heart.

love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;

And that person (achiever) returns love to his friend by not being boastful  and not being degrading of  his friend - still being humble despite the advantage.

5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own,

This kind of love shows in the "love of  others" - like those people who had TRULY helped the Typhoon Hai-yan victims no matter how small the help is and NOT  helping just for a hidden motive like (political reasons, corruption etc.)

 is not provoked, thinks no evil;

Love does not know rage and never thinks of  vengeance.

6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

Love is not love if it is sinful. It does not favor immorality or wrongdoings and  is NOT delighted in falsehood nor in pretense or deception.

 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love sacrifices, never gives-up, and perseveres till the end of life or the world itself.

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there aretongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

Love is eternal...
