What is Mystery Shopping

The first thing that comes to our mind when we look for an on-line accomplished job is encoding, tutorial, translating or ‘pay per click’ advertising. Mystery shopping has been there for long worldwide but not been so popular in the Philippines.  

Ang unang pumapasok sa isip natin kapag naghahanap ng pagkakakitaan online ay yaong mga gaya ng pagta-type (paggawa ng kopya), pagtuturo, pagliliwat ng wika o lenguwahe, o yung nauusong ‘pay per click’ advertising na naipakita pa nga sa telebisyon. Itong tinatatawag na ‘Mystery Shopping’ ay matagl nang mayroon sa ibang bansa ngunit hindi pa gaanong kilala dito sa ating bansa.

What is Mystery Shopping? As the name implies, it is shopping on mystery - a task done to shop  without the knowledge of the store employees and manager to assess the quality of products and services they offer and observe the problems that needed to be addressed right away. That is why Mystery Shoppers are sometimes called Customer Experience Evaluator. Those problems are crucial to the marketing of the establishment or product and even service the company offers the prospective consumers.  Yes, Companies pay mystery shoppers (or market research evaluators) to do that.  It is mostly for management purposes.  It is sure hard to tell the customer experience if you have not been a customer.

Ano nga ba ng ‘Mystery Shopping’, wala pong kababalaghan dito, ito lamang po ay ang pagbili na para bagang isang under-cover agent. Ginagawa ito upang matiyak ang kalidad ng serbisyo ng mga empleyado maging ng mga produktong iniaalok ng mga kompanya. Ang layunin nito ay upang malaman ang mga dapat ayusin at paunlarin sa serbisyo at kalidad ng produkto. Ang mga ito ay malaki ang ginagampanan sa pagbebeta at pagtataguyod ng produkto sa mga mamimili o kostumer. Ang mismong kompanya o may-ari ng produkto o establisiyemento ang nagbabayad para isagawa ito. Mahirap nga naman makapagsabi ng karanasan ng kostumer kung hindi mismo naging kostumer noong particular na produkto o serbisyo.

How does Mystery Shopping works?  

Paano ba itong Mystery shopping na ito?

Based on my very own experience, you will need to pass the certification process with some webinars and examinations - for International Companies like Helion and Bare International which I both passed, that is a strict compliance - submit a resume then after that just wait for shopping assignments sent to your email or view the Company's Shopping Map if there is an available "shop" nearest your location.  Then apply for that shop, if you are lucky enough, you will be given the assignment (especially, if you are tried and tested or with high rating as evaluator).  You will receive an email, guidelines from the Company paying for the shop and the reminders from your field representative - from the agency hosting the mystery shopping.  For local mystery shopping companies it may be more lenient as to the procedure. 

Sa aking karanasan, kailangan mong pumasa sa mga ibiibigay na Sertipikasyon pagkadalo sa ilang Webinars (online seminar) at pagsusulit pagkatapos na pagkatapos mong mag-seminar, automatic poi to at hindi pwedeng ipagpaliban – para sa mga international na kompanya gaya ng Helion at Bare International, na pareho kong naipasa. Mahigpit iyong ipinagagawa, magsusumite ng Resumè at matapos iyon ay maghihintay na lamang ng mga ‘shopping assignments’ o bibisitahin ang shopping map ng kompanya kung saan mayroong job malapit sa iyong kinaroroonan o lokasyon. Ganyan sa Bare, mag-aaply ka para makuha ang assignment sa dami ng shoppers. Kapag mahusay ka mag-report maaaring mapasaiyo ang assignment. Makatatanggap ka ng e-mail ,kung saan nakasaad ang mga tuntunin ng kompanya at ang dapat isaalang-alang sa pag-sa-shop at ilang paalala sa field representative – mula sa Agency hindi direktang nakakausap ang mga Companies kund dumaraan sa Agency gaya ng Bare at Helion at my percentage na sila sa bayad. Maaaring mas maluwag ang mga local na agencies dito sa atin ngunit sa naranasan ko sa Shop n -----, naku tagal na magbayad an liit pa ng shopper’s fee. Sabagay halos ilang minuto mo lang naman gagawin ang assignment, two hanggang three hundred pesos at babayaran pa yung ipinaorder sa iyo (isasauli kasabay ng shopper’s fee-yun ang tawag sa bayad sa MysShopper).

The Actual Shopping

You will be given the allowed (or sometimes EXACT date and time) days and time to shop as well as the items/menu to order.  Must read the guidelines carefully and note the key points. No companion. No additional orders or special requests such as extra ice, plate etc. because it will affect the time to complete the task.  Guidelines and tasks depends/varies per company.

Bibigyan ka ng panahon o petsa kung kalian ka DAPAT na mag-shop, mayroong eksaktong petsa, araw at oras mayroon din namang pipili ka sa pagitan ng petsang ibibigay nila pero may nakatakdang oras. Maging ang oorderin kadalasan ay sa kompanyang bilin.  Basahing mabuti ang ibibigay nilang tuntunin at tandaan ang mga importanteng bagay. Bawal ang may kasama. Walang dagdag na order o pakiusap gaya ng dagdag na plato, yelo etc. makaaapekto kasi ito sa oras para makumpleto ang gawain. Iba-iba ang nakahain na tuntunin at trabaho bawat kompanya. Gaya sa mga nasubukan ko, magkaiba ang sa Jollibee at McDonald’s. 

Evaluation Report (Ulat na Isusumite)

This is where management can based some important judgment in decision-making process. A questionnaire will be sent to you after the "shop" that you NEED to accomplish and submit/e-mail within twenty-four hours after the shopping together with the reimbursements receipt. The receipt serves as the proof of shopping it shall be scanned right away the date and time must be visible. All negative answers must be explained. Mystery shoppers are also called Customer Experience Evaluator or Market Research Evaluator..

Dito maaring ibase ng Management ng isang kompanya ang ilang mahahalagang desisyon nila – mayroong questionnaire na pasasagutan sa iyo na ipadadala ng agency sa email mo, kailangang mai-submit mo iyon sa loob ng isang araw (24 hrs.) pagkatapos ng shopping assignment. Scan o litratuhan ang mga resibo (ng pagkain na ipinaorder sa iyo at gasoline kung drive-thru assignment). Ang resibo ang magpapatunay na ginawa mo ang assignment ng tama –may petsa kasi iyon, oras at naruon ang mga lista ng ipinapaorder sa iyo. Kailangan malinaw na mababasa ang mga impormasyong iyon sa e-eemail mo. Lahat ng negatibong sagot ay kailangan ng maikling paliwanag.

Service

One of the most important parts of the job is the ‘timing aspect’ you will need a lap timer installed on your android phone to record each lap easily, the service minutes.  Some requires you to time the second you fell in line till you reach the cashier or till your order is computed then time again from that point till you receive your order. greetings and courtesy.

Isa sa pinakamahalagang bahagi ng work na ito ay ang ‘pag-ooras’, kailangan mo ng LAP TIMER – naido-download yan free sa Google Play. Yung lap timer kasi pupuwedeng pindutin lang agad para orasan ang magka-ibang bagay na ginawa – naisa-save bawat LAP (timed activity) ng wala nang mahabang pagre-reset na kailangan o anumang maraming pindutin. Ai-se-set ito ng tuloy-tuloy (magmi-minus kana lang) pero mas a\maganda kung iba-iba ang simula para bawas pagod na rin. Yan ang kaibhan niya sa ordinaryong watch timer.

Mayroong simula pagpila hanggang ma-resibohan ka ang gusto makitang oras ng kompanya tapos ilang minute o segundo mula sa pagtanggapmo ng resibo ang pagtanggap mo sa order mo depende sa bilin ng kompanya sa Guideline.

Facilities

If dine-in, you will be asked to check on the restrooms, the floor, glass walls and observe how fast or slow the crews pick-up and clean the customers left-over on table as well as the crews’ behavior towards customer - greetings and courtesy.

Kung duon ka sa fastfood o restaurant kakain gaya ng bilin, ipapasilip sa iyo ang cr, sahig, salaaming dingding, langaw kung mayroon, o baka tumutulo ang kisame at maging ang mga empleyado kung gaano kabilis magligpit ng mga pinag-iwaan g kostumer at maglinis ng lamesa. Maging ang ugali o kilos ng mga empleyado sa mga kostumer – kung sila ba ay bastos o magalang. Baka kumakain ka pa nagliligpit na walang pasintabi.

In drive-thru shopping, the drive thru area is put to scrutiny -the walls, its paint, the cleanliness of the roadway and the signage and advertisements required must be in the right places.  

Sa drive-thru shopping naman, yung paligid ng drive-thru ang bubusisiin mo. Malinis ba? Nakalagay baa ng mga advertisement sa tamang lugar, tama baa ng ibinigay na order lalo na inumin sa iyo, natakpan bang mabuti, may tisyu ba? Hindi ba mali-mali ang ounch ng cashier? Yung mga pintura sa bakod maayos at malinis ba? Wala bang anumang kalat sa paligid?

-Food

Food tasting must not be overlooked - if the orders are served hot and with the right consistency - like if the fries are hot and crisp, not mushy or if the spaghetti sauce taste right as well as if the beverage taste and ice is not too much to make it taste bland. 

Mahalaga riug huwag malimutan ang pagtikim sa pagkain – kung mainit bang inihain ang mga order, tama ang timpla. Halimbawa sa French fries – mainit at malutong hindi naman sunog o tostado; a spaghetti, ayos baa ng lapot o timpla ng sauce, maging ang inumin baka matabag na sa sobrang dami ng yelo.

For companies like Jewelry brands, the MysShopper is only given a generous discount (say for example a P2,000 off ) from the purchase. It is not discounted right away and will just be reimbursed to you after submission of the receipt depending on the release date of your agency. Other Signature brands give that same privilege to their mystery shoppers. Is it not amazing?! Your assignment lasts for just a matter of minutes. You can get as many assignments for the day on the same area (but different brand) till you drop. Earn as much as you can. Most assignments are in Metro Manila that is why I am not as active as you might expect. I seldom shop nowadays.

Sa ibang kompanya gaya ng sa mga alahas, hindi nila binabayaran ng buo ang isa-shop mo magbibigay lamang sila ng particular na halaga na handa silang ibalik sa iyo. Halimbawa dun sa isang shop na ibinibigay sa akin PhP 2,000 ang isasauli nila sa resibo kahit anong magustuhan kong bilhing alahas. Hindi iyon idi-discount agad, magbabayad ka ng buo. Yung agency ang magbabalik sa iyo kasabay ng shopper’s fee mo. Maganda di ba?! Ganun din ang ibang kilalang brand, minuto mo lang gagawin ang assignment babayaran ka pa at may discount o libre pang item kung minsan.Maaari kang tumanggap ng maraming assignments ayon sa kakayahan at oras mo. Karamihan sa mga assignments nasa Metro Manila kaya hindi ako sing aktibo gaya ng inaasahan nyo. Hndi na nga ako tumatanggap ng shopping assignment sa mga astfood sa ngayon.

Some international mystery shopping companies, if you passed the criteria, are also sending you for auditing - unlike mystery shopping, here you will introduce yourself and bring some papers or ID to authenticate the validity of your audit.  Mystery shopping has no DIRECT  interviews being done with the crews and staff of the store or fastfood.  And no matter what, you should not admit that you are a mystery shopper, that is why you should not be obvious too with your acts as if it is an ordinary day to you and you are there not for an assignment.

Yung ibang kompanyang sa ibang bansa ang opisina, kapag pumasa ka maari ka rin nilang ipadala sa pag-Au-Audit, hindi tulad ng Mystery Shopping, dito magpapakilala ka sa assignment company magdadala ng ID at mga dokumento na mag-papatunay ng Audit mo. Sa Mystery Shopping – walang direktang komunikasyon ang shopper sa mga empleyado ng tindahan at kahit anong mangyari HINDI MO DAPAT AMININ na mystery shopper ka kahit sa tingin mo ay huli ka na kaya nga hindi dapat halata ang mga kilos mo parang natural lang at ordinayong araw lang ito sa iyo.

Remunerations (Kaupahan)

Babayaran ka para sa mga sumusunod:

1. The Shoppers' Fee - ranging from US$ 8 to US$ 20 or in pounds as per Company.

Ito ang bayad sa oras mo sa pag-sa-shop – nasa pagitan ng US$ 8- 20 ayon sa kompanya.

2. Reimbursements (Isasauli)

- on the required purchase

Ang halaga ng ipinaorder sa iyo na nakasaad sa resibong isinumite mo.

-and equivalent gasoline for drive-thru shopping

(Iginasolina mo kung drive-thru ang assignment mo).
